I've registered, but I would rather wait for the original DFBarracks site to be restored. Not sure why this new site was given a name so similar to
the original site.

Site was given similar name so that the members of the original would hopefully register at the "temporary" version.
Which... is not a good idea! It's just like painting a picture of some Italian chick to put in place of the Mona Lisa, they're obviously NOT the
same.
Names, especially domain names, are a very big business and marketing concept.
Long-established businesses, organizations, and websites use their names to gather attention from any and all potential user.
As an example, lets use the company name Ford Motor Company, but uses the shorted name of Ford.
If a lesser known car company uses the name of Ford, they put confusion into the market, effectively sapping potential customers away from the Ford
Motor Company.
Additionally, if the lesser car company has inferior products or services, the real Ford Motor Company is at risk of having bad gossip being spread
around about THEIR products and services.
Because of this, businesses, organizations, and websites have a legal right to challenge the name of any other business, organization, website that is
the same as, or too similiar to, their name.
That being said, if your going to make ANY sort of new website, please make absolutely sure that somebody else doesn't have your domain name.
If your trying to make a "replacement" or "temporary" website of another website, i.e. dfbarracks and Tizag, You Must Ask The
Owners First.
Time is not my enemy, although we do have many disagreements...

Well said!
Even if the URL for that site is slightly different than for the original DFBarracks site, the header on that site reads Delta Force Barracks.
In the Welcome topic in there (http://www.df-barracks.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=d7f6f20bdbdd79768fa638e275e3447b&topic=1.msg47#msg47), it among other things
says...:
| Quote: | As far as I know the dfbarracks.net doesn't exist and the other one dfbarracks.com is the one that went down last summer. This
web sire is a replacement for the one that went down. I don't think the old one will be going back up since no one has been able to contact the
owner.

He should know that this is not true, since he was (still is?) a moderator in here when EE posted that he finally managed to get in contact with Major
Headache, i.e. the owner of DFBarracks.com...: http://www.dfreload.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=2372
Btw - The DFBarracks.net site is still up and running as well...

When http://www.dfbarracks.com is up again..there have many good maps. The best mapmakers
are from there, like Thunderhawk60, joselz, Spinney, and many others. After the site came out, they are gone. |

Hi! Luis-S,
I'm sorry, From what I can see I don't think Eagle Eye can get that up and running. The reason is. He mite not have FTP access or access to the
cPanel. If he did. He would have had it up and running by now.
The bigger problem is he mite not have a backup of the mysql databases too. and if he only has a backup of the web site. Not having the database and
tables could be a problem for him. The problem is that the database failed. This means he won't be able to recover them. So I think he's better off
to start from scratch.
and map makers from the old web site are more then well come to register here. |
