How to put dialog in my mission

Hello folks. My question since years is- How to put ranger voices in my mission? You know like :
"Victor 3 this is Victor 2 approaching the LZ now"
"5 1 dismount the humvee and continue on foot"
Thank you
P.S. What's happen with DF Barracks? Where is the old green style? Where are the tons of good maps for DFBHD?

If those sound files already exist in the game,
then call them up using WAVE, SSNWAVE, or Pwave commands.

Might also need WAVEREADY Command... depends on the game.

See Wiki for syntax & example.

The .wac is a supplemental file in addition to the .bms map file. The DF game from DF:BHD through DF:X2 support this file format.

Essentially, the .wac file allows a map making to control and manipulate the non-playable characters as well as the map's environment.

There are already several .wac tutorials floating around with the map making tutorials, as well as .wac command snippets.

If you have experiance with programming, you may be able to read NovaLogic's documentation on .wac files.

So there is no way to put dialog in my mission only through Map editor?

I dont think so... not 100% positive... Im not a MED user... but i doubt it.

Wac coding is extremely simple , though at times it can get complex, learning the basics it pretty easy.... basically its just a notepad file with the same name as the Map but with the extension renamed to .wac. Events are handled in .wac by using IF THEN Conditional Statements...

Example:

If never & ssnnearssn(55506,55515,12)
then ssn2ssn(55506,55515)
endif

Translated

Basically it says that:

IF its NEVER happened before {(If NEVER and)} & your guy {GUY(55506)} is close enough {DISTANCE(12)} to a certain object {OBJECT(55512)} THEN the guy {GUY(55506)} will go to that object {OBJECT(55512)} ENDIF

Yea i know my example kinda sux...

You should go to the WIKIWAC... http://nile.dfreload.com/wiki/ Or to the Links Posted by Shadow Z.

It will explain things much better than I can...lol

Josh is correct. The MED doesn't have resourses for playing .wav files.

The .WAC file is the only way to play .wav files and dialogs ,sorry.

If ssnarea(10000,1) and never then // player in area trigger#1
wave("nameofwave,wav")
endif

for dialog it would be a text or consol command.

If ssnarea(10000,1) and never then // player in area trigger#1
text(""Victor 3 this is Victor 2 approaching the LZ now")
text(""5 1 dismount the humvee and continue on foot")
endif

There's probably alittle difference between the structure of Joshs' scripts and mine but they both should work.

See Wiki for syntax & example.

FYI, you can make your own .wav files , then refrence them in your .wac command script.
Your recorded files should be done in Mono and in .wav format.

Very true... however anyone who joins in will need the .wav files as well.
Otherwise you will be the only one hearing them.

That's true, so to anyone who post maps for download ( with homemade .wav files ) you gotta include the .wav files in with the download.

That's also true for .wac files, .bin files, .cin files, .til files ... etc...

If they're not included with the download, then they won't work by magic.

I want to say thank you guys to all who try to help me. I will try and see what I can do.
I just have a little question- does someone know where I can download the original missions from DFBHD so I want to open it with the editor to edit them?
Thanks

They should be in your resourse.pff or one of the other .pff files in youe BHD folder. You just need to extract them.

I found that file resource.pff but when I try to open it with winrar it can't. I mean winrar does not support that kind of format. Any ideas?
And thank you :)

PFF Files are a unique type of archive. You need a PFF Editor.

http://www.dfreload.com/forum/files.php?action=file&id=63
http://www.dfreload.com/forum/files.php?action=file&id=124

There are a few others out there...
I prefer the PFF Editor that has the yellow Icon, but i couldnt find the link...
However the 2 links above will work fine.
