Installing Windows 7
This problem can happen to anyone...
During an initial install of Windows 7 I formated the partition that I wanted to use and then continued installing Windows 7. It seemed to install
ok..
I then installed a virus checker (Advast Version 5) which is windows 7 friendly. it installed OK.
I then activated Windows 7 over the Internet this was OK to.
The problem started when I tried to install motherboard drivers etc which I downloaded from the manufacturers site for Windows 7 x64 bit.
The driver would either come up with an error code during installation of would just stop working.
I then tried to install a video driver and it went to the installation screen and I then pressed the next button to start the install and it just sat
there for 15 minutes doing nothing??
So I then tried to install window office 2007 this again took 20 minutes to start installing the software and then failed at the last minute.
I think I have a problem....
Many hours of searching the Internet and many phone call to my friends we worked out what could be causing this problem I as experiencing.
One of the friends I spoke with said he had a similar problem with Window XP Home.
It worked out to be a bad format problem that gave him the same problem.
So I re-formatted the hard drive again and installed Windows 7 again.
It has worked perfectly ever since all programs installed with out a problem.
Someone out there may find this info usful.

Try deleting the partion too. That helps I know I have had the same problem. If your going to reload a PC. Then delete the partion and then format it.
Virus can cause that crap too. The only way to make sure every thing id gone. Just delete the partion.

Hey 11a, Iceman mentioned in his post that he had solved the problem by reformatting the hard-drive.
Time is not my enemy, although we do have many disagreements...

I am curious... what benefits do you get going from XP to 7 or Vista...
what features do they have that you cant do on XP?

For one, Direct X 10/11. Vista is pretty bad and broken, but 7 is amazing. Side snapping is pretty cool, too (or whatever it is called).

DirectX10 isnt (in my opinion) a feature... Microsoft just failed to make an XP version. The Alky Project however has. And XP is capable of running
it.
The snapthing is a feature... and i can replace it with freesnap.
Im just wondering because it seems like everything is trying to get me to upgrade
& im not seeing it as an upgrade at all.
Sorry not trying to steal the thread.

No offense, but after the "DirectX10 isnt (in my opinion) a feature... Microsoft just failed to make an XP version." comment, my suspicion of you
being one of those people who hates everything that is XP seems to be reality. And if that is the case, I'm not going to waste my time since there
would be nothing to convince you, and you know that. If you want to keep running on something that is 10 years old, it is your choice, just don't go
complaining when it is no longer supported and when games require vista or Windows 7.

The comment about DirectX10 not being a feature is just that... a comment about Directx10. If you think you gathered extra info from it, thats on you.
I asked the question because i was curious, since it seems most of you guys like 7 & Vista. All i get are requests for step-down drivers from people
who don't like it. Thats why I asked what features you guys liked about it. No need for hostility...lol

Hi Guys just to let you know Windows XP (from a fairly reliable source) will not be supported from mid 2012 if not sooner.

Yeah, and they actually made a gadget for count down until the support runs out. I never understood that since gadgets don't work with XP as far as I
know...

Gadgets (like on Vista desktop"Dock") dont work on stock XP it takes modifying or 3rd party app. but ive seen it done. I had a win7.exe once that
would install a win 7 (coulda been vista) theme & it had a dock & gadgets.
And what do you mean XP wont be supported.... like updates, or tech support (the guy from India)...lol ?
