WAC Text in Color

Is there a way to get the WAC to display text on the game screen in color? I host a DFX server (The PlayGround) and I use WolfRat to display text messages and sometimes it's hard to distinguish between WR text and WAC text.

I have never seen any WAC text in colour and never heard of any way of getting it so, unfortunately, because I agree it would be a handy way of separating the different texts :)

Thanks for responding . . . I haven't been able to find any way to do it either although I've been in a DFX server where I saw it. It's probably set up by someone far more knowledgeable than I about this sort of thing.

Thanks again . . . .:)

I started to hunt for a way to do this ... then I forgot all about it. Hopefully over the week-end will get a chance to seek and discover again.

If I knew where to look, I'd search for it too, but I've no idea where to start looking.

If Bubbachuk~{PG}~ saw it on a server somewhere, then it must be possible, but how?

I could certainly make use of it :)

This has been a fun Question but it's about to drive me CRAZY I honestly believe notepad does not support color, even tried notepad++ and also tried several html formats with no luck.

Good luck on the search hope to unfold this one someday :)

lol Golden ... you've made me think with the notepad thing because that's not where I was going with this :?

I'm thinking it has to be in mnu??? Ingame chat .. so many different colours there .. eg Local Chat=White, Team Chat=Green, Global Chat=Blue and there's a pink one as well but nfi on that one. I don't chat a lot in games .. however I do on TS :F

The pink text colouring is Global Team chat cos I've used it.

So if you Bubbachuk could find the server with the coloured WAC again, maybe you could let us know which server it is and we'll take it from there :)

We are talking about putting coloured text in a WAC file...lol

I've looked on the internet but can't find any mention of coloured text in WAC files anywhere :o

I'm not sure if the text from a WAC file was colored or game generated text. If I had to speculate on it I would say it was the WAC file. I know I saw it soon after I started playing DFX and before I got into making DFX maps So I didn't pay that much attention to it. This was around a year ago and I haven't seen it again anywhere. I don't have a clue what server I was in. :mad: GRRRRRRRRRRRR . . . .

Yep... the bin file has color commands ( ucFC8932 hexidecimal RR BB GG ) which is then
turned off with a ( -uco ) at the end of the text line.

example: ( ucFF0000 is red )
( uc00FF00 is blue )
( uc0000FF is green )

might be interesting to experiment with that in a wac... where the format would probably not be hex (255,0,0)

How do you make a bin. file? I've heard it mentioned many times but have no idea as to how to go about making one :?

Wellll... unless you're making a single-player map, it's almost useless. Because, unlike the wac, your custom bin does not work on anyone else's game. Unless, of course, they also have the same bin file installed. So, I guess you could use it for closed-session team games. It allows you to enter a mission descrtiption, change the goals, change waypoint and location names, add character names, etc.

There's a really good text version of a bin file in the dfx downloads.
Once you've modified the text to suit your map, you need to use the txt2bin utility to make it binary.

Like the wac, the bin must have the same file-name as your map.
And... semi-colons are commands... you cannot use them in your text, and never delete one or the entire order of the bin will be corrupted.

The color options may be in another .bin file that someone figured out how to use them with a .wac.

Well, that's only partly correct, there are a few things that are not transmitted, but there is a lot that is..

See this post about bin files, it tells you what is and isn't transfered via the game over the internet.

I thought some of the things from the .bin files showed up in COOP maps. I know I've inserted "Map Named Locations" on maps and then named them in the .bin files and they showed up in the server for all to see. Waypoint Names and modified objectives don't show up, however.

OK, I saw it.
Please allow me to rephrase.....
any USEFUL information will not be transferred to another player thru the bin file. (goals, waypoint, win msg). :S

As far as I'm concerned, people's names and special location names are totally useless unless they're supported by custom goals. And dfx has some silly stock goals (like sink the cargo ship) which can't even be executed. Or, protect civillians... when there are none to protect.

(grumble, grumble) Seems to me, when NL released the last update for dfx, they COULD have put in some better goals with an upgraded bin file. I mean... they've got hostage pilots... but no goal to rescue them. They've got a takeable case of cash... but no goal to take it. Oil tanks, and no goal to destroy them... a cargo ship... that can't be destroyed.

Altho, I did do a cargo-ship destruction sequence by telepotring explosions and then, animating the ship to sink with teleport targets. (Am I getting off-topic here? :F )

(Thanks, EE... I'd forgotten about that post)

Perhaps just use WAC for custom goals, therefore a coloured wac would be excellent!

Tac almost tells a story with his, but I get shot a lot reading it :P

For those interested, I did get mission briefings to work in a COOP map using a .bin file. I got the script from a post by Eagle Eye. It works great.

'[info]'
Title = "Eagles Run";
briefing = "Mission<-uco>
Test Coop Mission by Eagle Eye.

Situation<-uco>
Test Coop Mission by Eagle Eye.

Execution<-uco>
Test Coop Mission by Eagle Eye.

Situation<-uco>
Test Coop Mission by Eagle Eye.

";
LOSE_DEBRIEFING = ".";

Thanks Eagle Eye!!:A

I started this post almost 4 years ago and finally found the
information I was looking for. Hope ya'll can use it.

Here is a short list of the color codes you can use to change
the color of the WAC scripts: The script has to be enclosed
between right and left arrows, i.e. <#####> and inserted
before the line of text in the consol or text displays, i.e.

if never() then
consol("<#####>Insert color code before actual text. Characters")
text("<#####>in the code count in the character count allowed")
text("<#####>for each line.")
endif

cfff500 or co01 = Yellow

co30 = Light Yellow

co100 = Dark Yellow

cff5000 = Orange

cf50000 = Red

cf500000 or c300004 = Dark Red

c5000 = Dark Green

cf500 = Green

co99 = Light Blue

cff50 = Turquoise

cfffff5 = White (Don't see any reason to use this one)

cr953o3 = Gray

cffff50 = Tan

cf or ca = Black

cf50 or cab = Dark Blue

cff5 or ca0 = Blue

ca0014 = Purple

b = Bold Text

i = Text with Italics

u = will Underline Text
